SPENCER-VAn ETTEN High School

Seeking Highly Motivated Agricultural Educator for Spencer-Van Etten High School (9-12)
Program Description: Spencer-Van Etten is located just a half hour from Elmira and Ithaca, NY as well as Sayre, PA and graduates roughly 80 students each year. The agricultural education program benefits from its rural location as many of the local businesses are tied to agriculture in some way. S-VE’s agriculture education program was started in 2015 with the goal of providing more diverse options for students to graduate college and career ready. In that time, the program has chartered an FFA chapter that has had many successful students in state level LDEs/CDEs; recipients of grants; and World Food Prize participants.  In an effort to make implementing the new program more manageable, the animal science and environmental & natural resource classes were implemented first with a long-range goal of updating the shop facilities to meet the needs of an agriculture mechanics program in the future. The animal science class offerings include: Small and Large Animal Science, Veterinary Assisting, and Grooming while the environmental science offerings are: environmental & natural resources and fish & wildlife management. One of the school’s goals is to become a CTE certified program through NYS so the school can take advantage of the CDOS and 4 +1 pathways to graduation. The agriculture program facilities include: a shop, a computer lab/classroom space, 2 20’x48’ hoophouses, as well as access to a science laboratory when needed. The school also owns a 100-acre wooded lot that is just a short-drive from campus as well as some land that is currently rented out to a local farmer. A natural area, along with some small water ways are within minutes of the campus. In addition, community support of the school and program is outstanding, with many area agricultural enterprises being open to partnering with the program for SAE placements.  Ag. Teacher Position: S-VE is seeking a highly motivated individual who is excited about driving this program in the direction that the teacher best feels will help our students. The successful candidate will be prepared to implement the comprehensive three-circle model of agricultural education: Classroom Instruction, FFA, and SAE.
