The Nursery/Landscape Career Development Event includes all aspects of the industry in producing, marketing, utilizing and maintaining landscape plants (woody and herbaceous plants and turf grasses), plus related products, equipment and services including landscape design

The purpose of this event is to stimulate career interest, encourage proficiency development and recognize excellence in students of nursery practices and landscaping through the agricultural education curriculum. Students will be asked to complete a team activity and presentation; a general knowledge exam; identification of plants, pests, disorders, equipment, and supplies; a landscape estimation and drawing; a nursery production practices exercise; a written skills assessment; and a verbal skills assessment.

  • Age Range: Junior Division: Grades 6-8* || Senior Division: Grades 9-12

  • NY Contest Description: Teams will consist of four members, with the highest three members' scores calculated as the team score. A team may represent a sub-district or an individual FFA chapter. The contest will consist of nine (9) phases with each phase being limited to thirty minutes each. The Individual events are as follows: a written test; identification of plants, pests, disorders, equipment and supplies; landscape estimating; verbal customer assistance; and nursery production practices. The Team events will include: a problem-solving activity with a presentation; landscape drawing; and written customer assistance.

    * Junior Competition: Consist of an individual written test, individual identification, and a team assessment and solution practicum. Please contact the contest coordinator in advance to register junior teams.
