Horse Evaluation

Evaluate halter classes, performance classes, and finish with oral reasons!

The purpose of the Horse Evaluation Career Development Event is to stimulate the study of and interest in equine science selection, management and production through the agricultural education curriculum. This event also provides recognition for those who have demonstrated skills and competencies as a result of instruction in equine science. Participants will be expected to evaluate eight classes with four classes of reasons in addition to completing a team activity.

  • NY Contest Description: A team will consist of four members with the three highest scores counting towards the team score. The team must represent a school FFA chapter. Participants will be expected to place at least six classes-which may include halter and performance classes- and deliver two sets of oral reasons, which will be limited to two minutes each. Contestants are expected to bring a pen, blank paper, and a clipboard and should wear an FFA jacket, a state or chapter FFA shirt, long pants and appropriate footwear (no open-toed shoes).
